I'm no jewelry expert, but I'll do my best. With an inside diameter of about 3/4", this gold ring is fitted with a red "stone" (which I believe is just glass or some kind of synthetic) that measures about 3/8" x 1/4". The tapering sides of the ring have a pressed or incised feathery decoration, and the narrow part of the band has been twisted and broken, with signs that someone unsuccessfully tried to solder it back together. On the inside it is marked "10K" for the 10-karat gold content, and "LAF", which I assume are the maker's initials. It was found in Beaufort County, North Carolina, in a ring case that had a patent date of 1918.
