Antique MAUCHLINE WARE Wood MATCH SAFE Bremerhafen Port ANTIQUE MAUCHLINE WARE MATCH SAFE Wonderful quality antique Mauchline Ware oblong match safe box measuring 2-1/2" long, 1-1/3" wide and 5/8" deep. Featuring a detailed transferware scene of "BREMERHAFEN", a famous shipping and trade port in Germany, this type of ware was manufactured in Scotland in the 19th century, mainly sold as a souvenir item. Underside is mount set with a striker pad and front bears a tiny brass pin knob - pushing it opens the box and is operated by an ingenious little brass bracket on the inner panel. Lined in mahogany or rosewood, this is a lovely little piece - bottom is ebonized wood, top is maple (I believe) with a fine red trim on the edges - very nice quality. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or discoloration - lid has clear, fine crazing that does not detract. - wood has a rich, warm patina from age. Just a lovely little antique Mauchline Ware box - could have served as a snuff as well - nice addition to any collection or display! If questions, please contact me - thanks!
