Antique military rifle bayonet knife with steel metal scabbard case. Overall knife with case measures 18" long, knife alone measures 16 1/4" and the blade itself measures 11 3/4" long by 1" wide. The knife fits into the case very tightly. The knife is marked 1898 on one side of blade next to guard. T are a couple of tiny nicks in the blade near the top (I think you can see them in one of the pictures), but the point looks to be in good condition. T are some spots of minor rust (mostly in the blood runner) on the blade. The grip is a hard wood with 2 matching flush mounted rivets and t is an "X" engraved by someone into the wood. The "bird's head" pommel has a push button latch. Both the pommel and guard are metal. Everything on the knife is very secure. The case is metal with a ball finial and a blued finish, but has rust on the belt clip. I really don't know much about this knife--it was held by a collector and found in the family attic. It has been t for at least over 50 years. Please ask if you have any specific questions and I will be happy to answer them. I have been emailed and told that this is a 30-40 Krag bayonet used during the Spanish American war.
