Rare Russian Traveling Folding Triptych (Or????) Up for auction is what I believe to be this extremely rare 18 th or 19 th century Russian Traveling Triptych Icon. It is brass with hand-painting done in an exquisite teal or turquoise enamel. There are also white and black highlights. When fully opened, this remarkable Triptych measures 15 7/8" by 5 3/8". Each individual section is a just about 5 inches by 5 inches.The first panel (on the left) depicts Mary, Jesus is featured in the center panel and Joseph cradles the baby Jesus in the right-hand panel. This is an incredible piece you will not easily see duplicated.It has been in my family for several generations (since before World War II) and I am sorry I don't know anything about this item more specifically.Now for the fun part of this listing:In the interest of being totally upfront, I did list this originally on a couple of weeks ago and within out about an hour I got an email from an eBay member.(Because I didn't ask for permission to use his handle, I will leave it out)But here is the (entire) message: helloThis icon is from a famous Catholic Monastery in Belgium.
