For auction is this exceptional Seth Thomas clock. 11 inches tall by 9.5 wide. This model is called a Mentone circa 1898 but seems to be a slightly different variation. Solid mahogany with a perfect original finish and just enough alligatoring to make it look its age. The columns are mahogany too. The wood is perfect. The porcelain dial is flawless and cream colored (actually creamier than the picture shows) I had removed the ornaments to clean them in my ultrasonic cleaner and realized they had an original dark lacquer coating over the copper plating to make them look aged. I found it interesting that they actually "antiqued" things 100 years ago. Little did they know it would actually be an antique 100+ years later. That laquer coating was still in perfect shape so I left them alone. The movement which is a #48, same as a crystal regulator has been disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and much rebushing done. Works perfectly and keeps great time. Very quiet and soft chime. Original key too. I prefer to sell clocks to people that know clocks because t is more to owning one than just winding it a putting it on a shelf but if this is your first(and I say first because in all likelyhood it will become an addiction) I will coach you on the dos and donts of antique pendulum clocks as best I can. US shipping only please. Thanks, Ed read more
