ANTIQUE SHAKER SIGNED/INSCRIBED TREEN SEWING STAND SPOOL HOLDER THREAD CADDY This little Shaker-made spool holder dates from the mid to late 19th c and is turned from maple. The small wood and metal pegs would hold thread spools of various colors for ease of access during sewing. It has its original pincushion and a rich, satiny patina. What's particularly nice about this one is the inscription on the bottom. It's a bit difficult to make out, but appears to be "By (or BJ or BF) 1/6 49." If it's By, that might be the building and/or room it belonged in. "My" was used for Ministry, and Sy for Infirmary. The numbers might be the date -- I've seen several documented items use this form for marking the date. (Note: a similar thread holder in the 2007 Willis Henry Shaker auction (lot 268) was identified as ca. 1860 from Enfield, CT). CONDITION: Very good condition; the top piece has a tiny bit of "wiggle" in it but is still attached. SIZE: 6.5" h by 4" diam . $$$ FREE SHIPPING! $$$ PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN THREE DAYS OF PURCHASE.
