A French Antique Trinket/Sewing Box by Louis Theophile Hingre (1832 - 1911). The box is of the highest quality and is in very good condition. Made from silver on copper, casket shaped, the top, front and back depict scenes from Jean de la Fontaine's adaptations of Aesop's Fables. Each scene is titled - (Le Renard et la Cigogne, Le Loup et l'Agneau, Le Loup et la Cigogne). Hingre's sculpture is well known and his work on this box is really quite exceptional. The box is lined in a blue silk and has a buttoned lid lining. There is some wear to the silver on all sides, particularly the lid - see photos. The box opens and closes easily, the hinges are in very good working order, there are no dents or knocks to any of the edges. Hingre's signature is on the front of the casket.Measurements: Height 6.5 cms, Length 10 cms, Width 7 cms.
