Authentic Spanish Colonial era style stirrups which were in use from the 17th through the early 20th centuries in the US Southwest all the way to South America. The stirrups are approximately 11 1/2 inches long, and do not show a markers mark. The stirrups are unique because they have the hinged strap hanger that is secured with a keeper, similar to a modern day quick release arrangement. The left stirrup in the photo shows evidence of extensive use, while the stirrup on the right appears to be a matching replacement stirrup for a lost or damaged original. Both stirrups appear to be by the same maker, and match in size and detail. This pair of stirrups was found in Mexico in 1952.
