Old Antique Spun Cotton and Paper Mache Santa Sleigh Reindeer Christmas OrnamentFor your consideration, I offer this wonderful old Christmas ornament of Santa on a sleigh pulled by a reindeer. Santa is made of spun cotton with a composition or plaster face. It's hard to tell exactly what his face is made of really. It's nicely formed and painted though. Surrounding Santa's back is crepe paper which I believe is part of his coat. His little legs seem to be felt over wire or perhaps wood. I don't dare try to bend them. The sleigh is made of a combination of wood and paper Mache and partially painted blue. The reindeer is paper Mache and he is attached to the sleigh by a wire harness. The reins is made of twine. Marked Made in Japan on the bottom of the sleigh. The condition of this piece is overall pretty good. There is some damage to the reindeer's antlers. The cotton is a bit soiled and worn which is expected. However Santa is attached very well to his sleigh and the harness is firmly attached to the sleigh. I foresee no problems of the piece coming apart any time soon. The entire piece measures about 6.5" from the tip of the reindeers nose to the end of the sleigh and 2.5" wide.
