A rare Figural Inkwell with Grotesque Mask or Face, England, ca.1830. Molded form covered in a Bennington or Rockingham Glaze. There are two openings: the mouth is the ink reservoir, and the forehead for the quill holder. Signed on the base: Joseph / Thompson. Thompson founded Hartshorne Potteries in 1818. See Internet for further information on the maker. Condition: A pinhead size nick on the nose (left side, see close-ups); otherwise Excellent. Inherent glaze imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy. No chips, cracks, repairs or other excuses. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
