To begin with I am uncertain what the last word of the caption is, possibly "ANGELS HOVER NEAR THEE?......" This measures 45 x 29". This is Turkey Red Work and I was told that it may be a Pillow Lay-Over Sham. Central to the design are two Peace Doves hovering over a flower basket set with Anthuriums, daisies and pansies..Expert embroidery, all four corners have been carefully mitered and are very precise. Over the mitered corners and along the four sided hems are some of the most precise cross stitch I have ever encountered. There is a small area of 4 stitches that is vacant of its thread. The fabric is simple cotton sheeting with some of the whiteness having aged and the white now shows a dullness to it.....I won't even begin to try and brighten it, I'll let you do that. There is one small hole that goes through both sides of the hem, one small worn spot as well, but it doesn't go through. There are a few yellow streaks from age storage and some "rust" spots...Dates to the early part of the 1900s.
