Antique Staffordshire Cobbler and WifeThis Antique Victorian Staffordshire figures depict a Cobbler and his Wife, based on Jobson and Nell. They were the central characters of "The Devil to Pay", a ballad opera written by Charles Coffey and performed on the London stage in 1731. It remained popular in the nineteenth century. These figures were made from the 18th into the 20th century. These most likely date to the late 19th century, early 20th century. Approx 6.5"H X 3"W.Documentation: Similar pieces are documented in the Harding Staffordshire Book Volume 2, p. 135 Figure 2183/4.Condition: Some paint loss, some crazing, Restoration to Jobson's arm.I will be listing a large Collection of Staffordshire, many pieces deaccessioned from a Museum so please continue watching.Terms of SalePlease review photos closely.
