Fellow Wedgwood enthusiasts: You might want to view some other interesting and rare pieces....Check out my other items ! For your consideration, we have here a handsome antique Wedgwood Decanter in sage green jasperware. Depicted in white relief are four of the muses. These were made for a company, Humphrey Taylor, to distribute their spirits. It is incised "Wedgwood" only to the base and also bears the Humphrey Taylor imprint, referencing the firm's origin in 1770. This has led some to assume that the manufacture of these decanters must predate 1890 and even, quite absurdly, assign a 1770 vintage. In fact, these were produced circa 1910 and lack the "England" impress because, given the contents, there was no intent to export any of them and so the country of manufacture was moot. This decanter is 10 1/4 inches in height, 1/4 of an inch taller than the companion example pictured with it in the last photograph. They are not a pair (and only two of the four muses pictured are duplicated on the second decanter). However, displayed at a reasonable distance, they will function nicely as a pair, if one is so inclined. This piece is quite fresh and vibrant of color with no cracks or chips. The relief is both intact and unstained from the contents this decanter once held. Noted for accuracy, the footrim shows some staining and wear. Shipping read more
