For your consideration an antique Raco-Everett N.Y.N.H. & H.R.R. railroad train crossing alarm bell. Fresh from a local estate. The piece is in great condition. It is made of cast iron and has a nickel plated brass bell. The bell is in the shape of an old cow bell. I am pretty sure this is for use at a train crossing and not actually mounted on a train. I am sure you collectors will know. I have never seen a piece quite like it before. The back has seven mounting holes. Three with raised sections. The front is embossed RACO-EVERETT NEW YORK 4.0 OHMS N.Y.N.H. & H.R.R. I did some research and this stands for New York New Haven & Hartford Railroad. It measures about 11" in height by 9 1/2" in width by 8" in depth. This has to be one of the most unusual crossing alarms I have ever seen. I would say it is very early and from the turn of the century or before. It is not very big but it weighs about 20 pounds. The cast iron is all good with no damage or repairs. It looks to be complete. There is a small striker and arm that goes against the bell to ring it. I do not see any wires but I know it is run off of electricity. An excellent addition to any vintage railroadiana or antique collection or if you just want to own a really neat old railroad crossing bell. I ams selling this item with no reserve.
