Even in Japan, non conforming drivers become increasingly harder to find each year. This driver model was never released in the USA. Please keep in mind this driver is not allowed in official USGA governed tournaments. USGA banned these drivers because they have the "spring effect" COR value over .830 and hit the balls too long. (USGA non conforming list: USGA Non-Conforming Drivers ) For average golfers like us who don't compete in USGA events, this driver will bring nothing but pure enjoyment when you out-drive your buddies' spanking new Burner, Diablo, or Machspeed by 20+ yards. I have hit many drivers on the market, both US and Japan issues. In general, Japan-issue drivers sell for more than twice as expensive as US market models. here are reasons for it. In the U.S., most golfers want to play what they see their favorite tour players using. But in Japan, average golfers are more aware that there's a lot of difference between the pros and the rest of us. They are more willing to spend money to get equipment which is packed with technology that helps average golfers the most. We might call that "buying a game", But it's probably a more realistic way for 90 percent of golfers to buy equipment. Club makers have to go extra miles in order to compete in the Japanese market, including using different material and manufacturing process. First, the shafts: Japan-issue drivers come with made-in-japan premium stock shafts. Although they may feel a little softer when you bend them by hands, they always amazingly kick back right in time to give you a tremendous impact. These shafts reward smooth swings, and over time, they train the player to do so. Then, the driver heads: They may look similar but they usually feel a lot different than US market models. Some people describe it as a softer feel. The way I would describe it, when a ball meets the face of the driver, it almost feels like the ball is absorbed then shot back out on a super high speed rebound. I still remember the first time I hit a non conforming Japan spec driver (it's a Japan Srixon). I wow'ed with a grin from ear to ear when the ball was still flying in the air. R7 XR is Taylormade's last Hi-COR model in their renowned Japan-only XR line. Taylormade stopped making hi-COR drivers right after this one. Taylormade engineers put their best distance-producing technology into this last hi-COR fling. The historical value and crazy long distance made this the most sought after Taylormade hi-COR driver in Japan. It's entirely designed and made in Japan and never marketed in the US. It's probably the hottest and longest movable weight driver ever created. None of TaylorMade's low-COR conforming drivers released in the US stands a chance against this beast. The shafts that are in these Japan spec drivers are by far superior quality to the "stock" option offered in our clubs here. It's also very forgiving with a well designed 440cc head. Just imagine the envy look on your buddy's face when you blow away his new Burner or R9 by 20+ yards with this Japanese bad boy! What's Non-conforming products ?
