Prototype Apollo Astronaut Golden Dollar Only 900 minted.Sure to become highly collectible. The reverse became 1 of 7 US Mint finalists for the reverse of the Sacagawea dollar coin. It features an Eagle soaring across the sun with 50 rays (symbolizing the 50 US states) The 3 photos & 3 scans do not do justice to the mirror bright proof-like coin.The astronauts face is clearly visible. Designed by Daniel Carr Mr. Carr designed the US quarters for Rhode Island & New York State The brass proof-like prototype dollar features an Apollo Astronaut on the moon with a United States flag. This coin was designed in 1998, and the design was given a "2001" date, in honor of the movie "2001 A Space Odyssey". The 13 stars in the background symbolize the future colonization of space. The large "D" represents a "Denver" mint mark.A small "DC" (designer's initials) are visible to the left of the bottom of the flag pole. NO RESERVE auction. Buyer pays for all shipping.
