After several successful series of prints illustrating the beauty of Japan along the Tokaido road, Hiroshige collaborated with Toyokuni III to add an element of storytelling to a Tokaido series. These beautiful, unique designs exhibit Hiroshige's landscape mastery in striking scenes in the upper half of the print. They are combined with figural portraits from legend by Toyokuni III. The Two Brushes series takes the viewer back in time to Edo era Japan .
