The classic "covered wagon" Alco diesel freight unit. The modern GP types don't compare to this older style for looks. American Locomotive Works created a beauty in this unit. I had to fasten down the simulated diesel prime mover in the unit. This bit of plastic was only fasten on one side inside the body shell. It rattled. Now it doesn't rattle. I bought the engine when I was thinking about having a mainline railroad such as PRR or B&O. I changed my mind an now have a narrow gauge line, the East Broad Top. This B unit has been on the shelf since I changed my mind. I never ran it because I didn't have a layout until I started with the narrow gauge. The engine has a lot of neat feature such as a working smoke unit, an interior light, and sprung trucks that really work. When I was taking the pictures I noticed that the springs on the trucks worked when I picked the unit up and sat it down again. LGB doesn't have this realistic effect. Switches on the door on one end of the unit operate the electrical features. This unit begs for a sound unit (not included). The Alco sound is unique and easy to distinguish from General Motors diesels.
