Athearn HO GP7 Diesel, 1970s CNJ #1524 ‘Red Baron’ *Powered, lighted Cab End *Custom painted, weathered (Square Hood on Long End) *Flywheel motor *Kaydee Couplers, Bell installed *in Athearn Box First appearing on the CNJ Property in 1952, these early Geeps would inevitably become the time-tested ‘old guard’ of the CNJ, Conrail, NJ DOT, and finally, NJ Transit. Like their larger GP40P sucessors, these units would also change paint scemes as well as road numbers throughout the decades. These enduring locomotives served their owners well for many decades, save an unfortunate episode in September 1958 when 2 units, accidentally plunged through the open span of CNJ’s Newark Bay Drawbridge, causing a number of fatalities. The heavily damaged Geeps would be raised and rebuilt however, and reassigned to CNJ freight service. After being retired by NJ Transit in the early 1990s, 2 of these GP7s were rebuilt and restored to their original 1952 CNJ Livery, complete with their original road numbers (#1523 and 1524). We will be offering many more HO Trains (Diesels, Coaches, Cab Cars, etc.), most of which were customised by my son who has been a train buff for over 30 years.
