ATLAS WWII "Emergency" 50 ton Hopper Pennsylvania (2-rail O Scale) Appears New-In-Box! Sprung Trucks with Steel Wheels Kaydee Compatible Couplers Removable Coal Load Need I explain that during World War II, steel was in short supply and urgently needed for construction of ships, combat vehicles, and artilliary? To fill the need for the wartime traffic boom, car builders returned to a construction method from the past - "composite" cars with wood sides and steel bracing. No, they wouldn't be as sturdy and long-lived as all-steel cars, but in a time of emergency you had to make do! This beautifully detailed car from Atlas' "Steam Era Classics", decorated for PRR, appears to have never been out of the box - I had to undo the taped-down plastic cover to remove it for photography. It is both well crafted and sturdily constructed, and would be a facinating addition to any WWII "period" pike or display case. Please examine photos carefully before bidding. PAYMENT Sadly, I must collect 7% Sales Tax on items sold to buyers in the financially and politically impoverished state of New Jersey.
