Here we have an Antique, BEAUTIFUL, Mahogany Infilled Iron Panel Plane, HOWARTH Cutting Iron . There is no maker name on the plane body. The cutting iron was manufactured by James Howarth. Howarth was a well known edge tool manufacturer in Sheffield England from approx. 1834 to 1913 with the help of his 4 sons in later years. The cutting iron is stamped: JAMES HOWARTH SHEFFIELD and has his logo mark. This is a screw-sided body which anchors the infilled sections in place. The sole is approx. 13-5/8" L x 3"W. The infill is in Very Good 'used' condition. There are NO cracks in the infill, just some very minor nicks here and there (see pics). There are a few minor mallet marks in the heel of the sole. All of the infill and the wedge are beautifully sculpted and have great grain !! The iron sidewalls have a wonderful scalloped shape and are chamfered along the edges ! The plane is fitted with a very good 2-1/2" wide, tapered cutting iron set' by Howarth (see info. above). The cutter is sharp and mates very nicely with the mouth for a 'tight mouth'. No owner marks. NO cracks, breaks or repairs. This is a nice heavy plane at approx. 7 lbs. 2 oz. (unpacked) This Beautiful plane would make a great addition to your 'Infill' collection or put it to work !!**** I OFFER FREE 'LOCAL' PICKUP !Note: Shipping cost quote is for PA to CA.
