Description: For auction is an original 19th/20th century oil painting attributed to the listed British artist George Turner (1843-1910). The painting depicts an A Boy Fishing of a Bridge in a English Countryside landscape, it is painted on a thin board laid to panel, and is signed lower right 'Geo Turner' see photo four on the top row. The painting has a visible image of 22.5 by 15 cm and is framed in a later wood and gesso frame measuring 33 by 26 cm, note the inner slip is original to the painting. I am listing as attributed because I am unfamiliar with works by this artist and unsure of the level of detail compared to online images. The painting was previously listed as an original George Turner by a Gerrards auction house. There is a condition report below. The images are slightly sharper if viewed on Picasa by the above link. The frame will be packed securely in a custom made plywood box, the postage by UPS is included FREE on this listing within the UK. George Turner is a well known and collected listed British artist who's work appears regularly at auction houses including Christie's, Sotheby's and Bonhams. The images above If the images do not load there is a direct link to them above Artist: George Turner (2 April 1841 – 29 March 1910) was an English landscape artist and farmer who has been dubbed "Derbyshire's John Constable". Turner was born in Cromford, Derbyshire in England, but then moved to Derby with his family. He showed an early talent for music and art - encouraged by his father Thomas Turner, who although a tailor by profession was also an art enthusiast. Turner was largely self-taught and went on to become a professional painter and art teacher. Turner lived in Derbyshire all his life. In 1865 he married Eliza Lakin (1837 - 1900), becoming a part-time farmer and raising four children at Walnut farm in Barrow upon Trent. He had a number of successful students including David Payne and Louis Bosworth Hurt. After Eliza's death in 1900, he moved to Kirk Ireton and later married fellow artist Kate Stevens Smith (1871-1964) - they set up home in Idridgehay where he died in 1910. His son William Lakin Turner (1867-1936) also became a landscape oil painter of repute. Turner worked in oils and painted bucolic scenes mainly of his native Derbyshire, leaving an important legacy of hundreds of pictures depicting the English countryside before the coming of mechanisation, the motor car and urban expansion. His work was exhibited in Nottingham and Birmingham. Turner served on the Art Committee of Derby Art Gallery and both his and his son's paintings are included in the city's collection. Condition: The painting has a small area of loss in the sky between the trees, ingrained dirt visible in the sky beneath a newer layer of varnish, is otherwise in good condition.
