Roosevelt Autograph & New Bedford Whaling Ships Book...... Copyrighted in 1929 by Clifford W. Ashley, this Limited Edition Book is titled, "Whaleships of New Bedford." It contains sixty full page illustrations of known New Bedford Whalers. The introduction in this book was by the New York Governor, "Franklin Delano Roosevelt." In this introduction Governor Roosevelt talks about the author Clifford Ashley and his knowledge about New Bedford Whaling. This limited edition book of 1,035 copies is hand signed by the author. I did find several examples of this book on line however the copy we are selling has an added bonus. On the page after the introduction is a tipped-in card from the "Executive Mansion" in Albany this card has an embossed gilt New York crest in the corner and the Governor's signature "Franklin D. Roosevelt." (We guarantee 100%, plus shipping, that this signature is authentic and in Roosevelt's own hand.)... This book measures 8 ¾" by 10 ¾" and is in complete clean condition with only a bruise to the lower right hand corners. It comes in its original dust jacket which has several repaired tears and a reinforced edge. This 1929 Limited Edition Book comes in its original sleeve along with facsimiles of correspondents between the author and Franklin Roosevelt. There also is a book plate that reads, "From the Franklin D. Roosevelt Collection of Donald Scott Carmichael." All of the correspondents and the hardcover portfolio is in very good condition.
