Authentic Navajo Indian sand painting , design depicts a religious ceremony, purchased in New Mexico, USA, real wood frame, mint condition, measures 26.5" x 26.5", triple matted, intricate design with a lot of detail. The backside of sand painting has wire and is ready to hang. It also contains the following handwritten message: "This is a navajo Religion Ceremonial sandpainting design.". Below these words is the signature of renowned artist Rosabelle Ben (wife of famous Navajo Indian sand artist Herbert Ben) and the number 94. Paid $110.00 12 years ago. Many of her sand paintings sell today for $230 or more. The Navajo word for sandpaintings means "place w the gods come and go." The sandpainting has been used for centuries in religious rituals, including healing ceremonies performed by Navajo medicine men. A sandpainting for a ceremony is made on the ground in the ceremonial hogan and destroyed at the end of the ritual.
