This is a baby gown with Broderie Anglaise lace and tiny nuns pleats from about 1900 or a bit earlier. This gown measures 32 inches long with 8.5 inch sleeves, a 54 inch hem and is 8 inches shoulder to shoulder. The fabric is a fine sheer cotton lawn, stitching is a combination of machine and hand stitching with hand embroidered Broderie Anglaise lace at the hem, sleeves and yolk front with beautiful drawnwork where the sleeves attach, the collar and front, just beautiful handwork! There is a back opening but no fasteners apparently it was never meant to have them. There are about 6 holes in the lower front ranging from very small to about pea size also a tear about ¾ of an inch and another one about 1.5 inches long, these could all be darned easily enough. The gown is otherwise in good clean condition.
