This is an auction for one of our 1950 rolls, part of the hoard written about at the bottom. Some of these 1950 rolls are raggedy. This one has an 1863 Civil War Bronze Indian Head penny and a 1914 Barber Dime showing on each end. I hit the jackpot at the last auction I went to. Seems this mans father used to go to the bank in their town, the bank of Brewton, Alabama. Brewton is a very small town with a lot of history back to the early 1800's. It is right up the road from Pensacola, that was founded in 1559. The railroad from Mobile, Al. goes through there and the town has had a few boom times. Apparently the bank of Brewton is the first bank in Alabama. So the story goes that this mans father would go to the bank in 1958 and pick up bank rolled wheat pennies because they were not going to make them anymore. These rolls were rolled by hand on a small antique hopper roller. Seems the mix is quite distributed because no one apparently collected coins up that way in Alabama. I have found a good mix of coins all the way back to 1909 with a few indians and war pennies in the rolls. They run some bu to au with mainly 40's 30's 20's teens, to 1909 along with just a few in the 50,s. I found a silver dime in a roll. These are very nice bank rolls.
