This genuine Batger & Co cracker box cover/label features a lovely picture of Vikings landing presumably on our shores – what looks like the white cliffs of Dover are in the background. Measuring 21cm x 26cm (8.5ins x 10ins). It is in excellent condition with vibrant colours and numbered 1880. The Batger’s factory was in London and they also marketed other items such as sweets. The factory was destroyed by bombing in the second world war. For further history on crackers I recommend Peter Kimpton’s book ‘Tom Smith’s Christmas Crackers an Illustrated History’ or visit his web site www. - this cover has been featured on the website. He mentions Batgers as being one of the few competitors of Tom Smiths who had anything like the same quality artwork. A number of Batgers covers are reproduced in his book and on the website.
