This is a really nice, large antique solid sterling silver souvenir spoon from Battle Creek, Michigan. I have other very good Michigan spoons listed now, too. The goldwashed bowl is hand-engraved with a very detailed scene of "Sanitarium, Battle Creek, Mich." I've seen a lot of engraved bowls, and I do believe this is one of the best, most detailed ones. Amazing how they did that, and on a small, curved surface yet. Battle Creek is the home of the cereal giants - Kellogg's and Post. This Sanitarium is the health mecca that was run by the brothers, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and Dr. William Keith Kellogg, w they invented corn flakes. T was a book and a movie made to tell the story, The Road to Wellville. Very interesting and fun to watch. The spoon has a pretty wavy handle with a Michigan state crest on top . It is marked "Sterling" on the back of the handle, with the NSCo hallmark for the Newburyport Silver Company, a Rhode Island maker that was out of business by about 1914.
