I'm selling downrigger weights made by pouring molten lead into a 12 ounce beverage can. Depending on the exact alloy of lead I use, the weights are an ounce or two either side of the 10 pound mark on the scale. Sure you can make them yourself--if you have access to the lead to melt and you can figure out how to pour it without burning the paint off the cans. But do they work as well as a "store-bought" weight? You betcha! I am a professional charter captain on Lake Michigan. I only use the best equipment and, as a pro, I can afford to use the best equipment available. In fact, I can't afford to not use the best gear available and I use these weights EVERY day I spend on the lake. I have a large selection of cans (flavors) from which to choose. Some people buy certain brands because they want specific colors--Mountain Dew is mostly green, Miller Lite or Pepsi is mostly blue. Me, I run one lite beer, one full calorie, one sugar pop and one diet soda on my boat and let the fish decide what they want. HA ! Or if you are a Bud man, show the world! The auction is for one weight but send me a message before paying and you can order additional weights for the bid price with no increase in shipping costs. I can Priority Mail 1 to 6 weights to you for the same $14.00 via USPS Flat Rate box. (My mailman-lady hates me when I sell a 6-pak).
