Big Old Chinese Celadon Nephrite Jade Statue AUSPICIOUS SHEEP 18/19THC GOOD LUCK Big Old Chinese Nephrite Celadon Jade Statue. Carved with a big sheep image. In ancient China, xiang (pronounced xiang and meaning auspicious) and yang (pronounced yang and meaning sheep) were interchangeable. And so ji xiang ( ji xiang , meaning good luck) could be replaced by ji yang ( ji yang , literally, auspicious sheep). So a carving sheep statue was often used as a gift when wishing someone good luck. The craftmanship is very elegant as you can see from the photos. The polish is very nice. The material is very smooth with fine carving on every detail. Natural brown veining inside the stone. It will be a nice collection for you. Width of Jade: 11.2 cm ( 4.41 in), Thickness of Jade: 4.6 cm (1. 81 in), Height of Jade: 8.1 cm ( 3.19 in) Condition is very good, Nicely hand polished.
