In 1932, William Earle Johns, veteran of the Royal Flying Corps in the World War I, began writing stories about James Bigglesworth, ace RFC pilot. First there were the stories of the war, but the character proved popular with young people in England and elsewhere, and Johns went on to write dozens of "Biggles" books, carrying his hero around the world and through a second world war and through every kind of adventure imaginable that requires an airplane. The standard of writing is far above most of the kids' books from that era. Here, in paperback, you have all the Biggles books set during the First World War, nearly all the stories contained in these volumes written between 1932 and 1935. Original editions of these title are all rare and expensive. I. The Camels Are Coming. 1932. The book wherein Biggles first appeared. II. Biggles of the Camel Squadron. 1934. (Later retitled Biggles of the Fighter Squadron.) III. Biggles Learns to Fly. 1935. A prequel to the first two books. IV. Biggles in France. 1935. The last of the Biggles short stories. V. Biggle Flies East. 1935. The first Biggles war novel, telling of Biggles adventures flying on the Palestine front. VI. The Rescue Flight. 1935. The other Biggles war novel.
