Hand made 122 bit by legendary Pampa, Texas maker Billy Klapper. 8 1/4" cheek, 5 1/4" mouth with a 2" tall port and copper rings on the bars. Seven pieces of silver on each cheek, all hand cut and hand engraved. Natrual patina. Marked " 122 KLAPPER " on left cheek. (mark and number is upside down). This bit was made in the early 1980s or before and shows very little use and wear. Most of the 122 bits you see for sale have a lot of wear to the hinges and port. The port in the bit is still tight and shows no evidence of having been reworked or peened on. The bit has been used but it is a long ways from being used up. I will stand behind this bit as 100% original Klapper . The 122 is one of Klappers more popular patterns and has been widely copied by many makers. Kalpper is one of only two makers to be featured in both " Bits & Spurs in the Texas Tradition " and " Bits & Spurs Techniques, Motifs and Modern Makers " as well as many other books, magazine articles and featured on several televison shows. He has been awarded "Spurmaker of the Year" by the Cowboy Artist Association and was co-winner of the first "Adolph Bayers Spurmaker Award" by the National Bit Spur and Sadlle Collectors Assoc" and the "Texas Style Spurmakers Assoc." T's probably not a more collectable Texas maker out t than Billy Klapper. 's a chance at a good 122 Klapper read more
