Interesting Black Tibetan Kapala Scull Deity Mask This intensely powerful mask is representative of the Tibetan meditation on the transitory nature of existence. It is used in Kapala Tantric Rituals. Scull are used frequently in Tibetan mythology to use death as a teacher. Most well known are the Tibetan scull prayer beads originally made from the remains of monks for future monks to appreciate the limitations of the human form. I found it at the dusty Tibetan Mask Center from my old friend Prakash. Prakash told me that he travels to remote Himalayan villages to find these things. The age is unknown. Prakash often doesn't have much information on the masks as they get traded around alot. Aside from natural wear and tear and a few dings the mask is in very good condition. T was one crack below the teeth that appears to have been repaired (see pic). Authentic original mask to bring home for your Tibetan collection. Measures 12 inch top to bottom, 8 inches wide across the bottom side and 5 inches deep. You won't see another one like this!
