This is a fine white china plate by Edwardian commemorating Blairhall Colliery, which was located near Comrie, some six miles west of Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland. The colliery was sunk in 1906 and the two wood-lined rectangular shafts (called Lord Bruce and Lady Veronica after the son and daughter of the Earl of Elgin) were sunk to 337 fathoms. The mine was reconstructed, electrified and mechanised in 1952 and continued to produce good quality coal until exhaustion in 1969. . Details on the reverse. 10.5” in diameter, perfect condition.
