Up for auction is a rare art deco vase by Charles Catteau (Belgium 1880-1966), 1924, Design D8741. Featuring a polychrome design on a yellow background with stylized orange and teal flowers set among white and blue leaves. Marking on bottom shows D874 - Ct. (which I believe is the mark of Charles Catteau) in addition to stamped "723", "Boch F(es) Made in Belgium La Louviere Height Fabrication Belge" Height ``11", base 4" opening diameter 3.50" (From Exposition : Retrospective Charles Catteau, Strépy-Thieu (B), 2006). Condition: Some age-related crazing. Photos show a tiny flaw/ding which has impacted the finish (see photo with the tape measure to show its size). What appears to be another ding is actually a speck of blue paint fired beneath the finish. There are also a three specks (1) and narrow spatters (2-longest is 7/16") of orangish paint fired under the finish. Also a tight hairline runs down circa 1.25" from the rim (see photo). In 1906 Catteau moved to La Louvière with his small family and started to work for Boch Frères Keramis, a Belgian earthenware factory located in La Louvière since the 19th Century.
