Unmarked BonTon or CDV Petzval Lens fixed, internal aperture stop Here's a nice vintage lens mounted in brass. It is the type of lens tube that would be found on the special 4-lens plates made for making multiple photos efficiently. The optical elements fit the Petzval form: a cemented doublet in front and an air-spaced doublet in the rear (reference: Kingslake "Lenses in Photography", p131). There is a fixed aperture stop inside the barrel - this one has NOT been cut for waterhouse stops. The plane of focus is about 5 inches behind the edge of the barrel (the threaded end goes forward). The only marking is a "5" on the barrel. Very good condition: the lens elements are clean and free of dirt, haze and fungus. There's no separation. There are very faint, light scratches - not bad at all. There's a small amount of glue residue (?) at the edges of the rear element. The brass barrel is heavily tarnished.
