This is a George Butler No 2/58 hollow ground, concave 13/16 straight razor, Model “KEEN” with an original case and is one of a pair that I have for sale. I think this razor just about has “the edge” over the other similar one because of the condition of the scales. It is a straight / cut throat razor in very, very good condition and appearance with a blade that has no splits, cracks, chips, pitting or rust. There is, however, a very small amount of age related dullness and discolouring to the shank by the rivet. The blade has the customary representation of Wm Shakespeare and the quotation (Keen as this….etc.) from his Love’s Labor Lost. The shank carries the name GEORGE BUTLER & C0. Sheffield England; with the company registered mark (ART encircled) to one side and opposite it is stamped No2/58. The scales are black with a cream spacer and are in an unmarked or damaged condition. They are probably made from celluloid. The razor has the original box which is very good condition (see photographs) for the age and use and has the number 1 hand marked on the label, presumably by someone who owned and used both. The buyer will find a small piece of packing inside the top of the box which is to prevent the razor moving whilst in transit.
