Chicago and North Western EMD covered wagon spec card General Motors Electro Motive Divsion, La Grange Illinois, produced this collectors card. The front has a beautiful print of a water color drawn by Ben Dedek. The back tells you everything you would want to know about the pictured unit 5401. A short history of the aritist: Benjamin Dedek is the man who has painted many of the beautiful water-color pictures of diesel locomotives which you have seen on calendars, magazine ads, booklets, and as attractive pictures hanging in offices and other public places throughout the country. Although Benjamin Dedek worked in the Styling section of Engineering, he was really doing a big job in public relations and advertising for Electro Motive. After he finished a certain locomotive, complete with the exact colors and styling used on the particular railroad, the paintings were carried down one flight of stairs to the Photography department. an 11 x14 color separation was made. And, finally, wonderful colored pictures were mailed to the customer and his advertising agency.
