POEMS OF AMERICAN PATRIOTISM Chosen by Brander Matthews An Edition Revised and Extended Illustrated by N. C. Wyeth New York Charles Scribner’s Sons 1922 A first edition of this uncommon title in the Scribner’s Classics series, published in 1922 and illustrated by N. C. Wyeth. There are 222 pages and 14 full color plates including the frontispiece with tissue guard, and illustrated end-papers. Overall, this is in very good, clean condition. The external boards show light overall wear, mainly along the spine gutters. The edge points on the front board are just slightly bumped. On the rear spine gutter there two tiny pinholes, one about 2 inches down from the top and the other about 4 inches down from the top as well as one on the front gutter about 5 inches down from the top. The paste-on illustration shows light overall general wear. The gold print on the spine is faded but still readable. Internally the book shines. There are no previous owners signatures and the pages, save for some occasional age-toning, are bright. The plates are clean and the colors are still vibrant. The frontispiece tissue guard is still present. The hinges are fine and the binding is tight. The top edge, at the edge point, of the inside front board has a small piece missing from the illustrated end-page. This book contains poems by Ralph Waldo Emerson, read more
