C1850 CHILDS Poly Staffordshire Transferware ABC ALPHABET PLATE * * FRANKLIN PROVERB HE THAT BY THE PLOUGH WOULD THRIVE HIMSELF MUST EITHER HOLD OR DRIVE This 7” motto plate is a black transfer scene of a farmer plowing with his horses, flowers and ferns in the foreground and a large manor in the background decorated with hand painted shades of spring green, red, yellow and inky cobalt blue brushstrokes. The border displays a complete alphabet interspersed with a 3-leaf embellishment and a red band trim. The plate is finished with a blue pearlware glossy glaze.
