For sale is an original Boston School Impressionist oil on canvas painting signed JLS which is said to be for Joseph Lindon Smith (American, 1863-1950)The painting is said to depict his home, The Ludlow on Trinity Terrace, in Boston (as identified as such in pencil on the stretcher...see close up pictures).Smith studied art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, where he was also later appointed president in 1931.Known more for his exquisitely detailed paintings of ancient Egyptian ruins and archeological sites he was also an impressionist painter in the Boston School style.The painting is initialed JLS in the bottom left hand corner. Since we have no further information outside of the reverse inscription we sell this as a C1900 Boston School Impressionist painting. We are unaware of “The Ludlow house” on Trinity Terrace. But we presume it may have been demolished with the expansion of Boston. We are unsure. We do know there is a Trinity Terrace in the Four Corners neighborhood of Dorchester.Condition: Very good. Professionally cleaned and re-lined. See all detailed pictures.Size: 18” x 14”. There is no frame.Joseph Lindon Smith was born in Pawtucket, RI.
