THOMAS L. LEWIS (1907-1978). Lewis was born near Houston and was already a professional artist by age 19. Originally he painted scenes of the American South, including swamps and cypress, but after service in World War II he moved to Taos, sketching there with Bert Phillips in the latter's final years. While in Taos Lewis operated the Taos Art Gallery for many years, representing artists like William Moyers and John D. Free. Works by Lewis appear at auction and at western galleries, and paintings are held by a number of western museums. -- SEE PHOTOS !!!
