Lot 1 of seven different varieties of 1st (Independent) Armoured Brigade formation patches. PLEASE NOTE! In this lot you are bidding on the item in the first scan only! Other scans are included to show the difference in the varieties I am currently offering for sale on eBay. Lot 1 is a Canadian made patch '12 CTR' (12th Canadian Tank Regiment (3 Rivers Regiment). Yellow lettering, with serifs, woven through red bar and black melton lozenge and through stiff white cloth backing. This designation was used only between May 15th 1942 and August 26th 1943. In the 1936 reorganization of the Canadian Militia six infantry regiments had been designated as Infantry (Tank) regiments at that time the tank was still considered as a slow moving infantry support weapons. (Some cavalry being designated armoured car reconnaissance regiments) The Canadian Army however did not acquire any tanks until 1939 when two WWI French two man Renaults were obtained from the USA. After the German Blitzkrieg of 1939 and 1940 Canada's military planners quickly modified their plans and Canada's industries turned to producing Canadian built tanks.
