Found at an estate auction: ANTIQUE...charming and rare set of CANTAGALLI majolica dating from around 1890-1920. These pieces, each bearing the "singing cockerel" mark to their bases, consist of FOUR cups, FOUR saucers, and a lidded coffee pot. Each is hand painted in a gold, green, and blue design of ribbons and swags of flowers. The cups and saucers have a pinched rim giving a scalloped effect. The cup handles have a twisted or coiled snake motif which is repeated on the handle of the pot. See all photos. CONDITION: On close inspection, each piece has some tiny flaw or flaws: these pieces are over 100 years old and have the typical flea bites and tiny chips at the most vulnerable spots -- rims, pinch points. The spout of the pot has suffered the largest chips, and even these are comparatively small. I have photographed a detail of the spout. Please do inspect all photos and ask questions. Price discounted due to flaws. SIZE: The saucers are deep and are 4-1/4" across. Cups are 2-1/8" tall, and about 2-3/4" across the top rim, not including handle. The pot is about 7" tall and 3-1/2" across the base. ******* NOTE********I have FIVE MORE CUPS AND SAUCERS, for a total of NINE sets. If more than the four offered here are desired, please inquire about them. FROM THE INTERNET: Cantagalli Pottery was one of the oldest ceramic factories read more
