Viet Minh / Viet Cong Border Security - POW GUARD Cap Badge - Cong An Viet Minh / Viet Cong CONG AN Cap Badge Cong An Nhan Dan Vo Trang - Viet Minh / Viet Cong Cap Badge Measures - 1 Inch in diameter ( 2.5 cms ) ONE ONLY AVAILABLE The Cong An were the first security force of the Viet Cong / Viet Minh formed in 1950 at the height of the French-Indochine War. The unit was repsonsible for border security. In 1959 the original Cong An was dissolved and replaced by the updated version (of which this badge applies). Controlled directly by the Commnuist Party, the Cong An were in effect the Secret Police Arm (both Civilian and Military) of the Viet Cong related Communist Pary. The role of the Cong An was both border and coastal security in-particular the intercepting of Allied Spies crossing these borders. By the mid-1960's the Cong An had grown into a full Military Force and as well as a growing presence on North Vietnam's borders was placed in charge of Internment and Interrorgation of all Allied POWS during the War. Note: The Cong An force is credited with the 1979 repelled attack of Vietnam by the Chinese however was again dissolved and re-formed, renamed in 1981.
