This is a 6" leather helmet shield for the Captain of Rescue 1 FDNY, this is from a local estate, the shield has the blue 1 insert in the center. The bottom panel has been painted over. You can make out the Lieutenant lettering under the Hsnd painted blue Captain. I believe this was a lieutenants shield then was turned into the Captians shiled when the Captain got the "helm" in Rescue 1.
