This lovely Chatsworth "Sleeping Lion" is one of a pair reproduced from the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. It is in as new condition with no chips, scratches or scrapes. It was bought from Chatsworth House. The label on the bottom reads - The originals of these sculptures can be found in the Sculpture Gallery at Chatsworth, Derbyshire. In 1823 the 6th Duke commissioned Rinaldo Rinaldi and Francesco Benaglia to copy the lions from the Canova sculpture in St Peter's, Rome. The Chatsworth originals are larger than life size and ARTFORUM'S sculptors have recreated these scaled down versions. Handmade in the United Kingdom from reconsituted stone with antique wash. It comes from a pet and smoke free home. Thank you for looking.
