CHAUNCEY BRADLEY IVES (NY/CT/ Italy, 1810-1894) - "Undine Rising from the Water", Carrara Marble, executed 1880-1882, on integral base with waves, signed on base "CB Ives fecit, Rome", 50 3/4" tall, roughly 15" x 12". Minor pitting to the uppermost surfaces. A larger version of this is in the Yale Art Museum, New Haven, Conn. Like that version, this is carved with such remarkable detail and delicacy that the fabric draping around the head is translucent. From a Maine home.
