Here is a very clean Chicago Streamliner in-handle reel without a rod. They designed it with a variable rod chuck to accept the customer’s choice of popular rods of the day. It has a serial number in the 6000’s with the black plastic handle knobs, lightly checkered chuck, and adjustable line roller. All parts are here, including the proper cover nuts and handle nut, good handle, and solid cork grip (with one small dent). The plastic gear covers have some marks, and are ‘tight’ to remove, but overall a good looking and smooth running example with a strong With a slight backup of the handle, this is a free spool reel and features an adjustable line control to synchronize and control the line and spool speed. “Just try to backlash this reel,” was the advertising of the time. This unusual reel is rarer than the Hurd Supercaster, and has an estimated total production of just over 10,000 ever made. When new (1940’s?), it sold for $38.50 and had a lifetime guarantee (no longer valid, sorry). I will include a photo copy of the advertising brochure of the time.
