EXTREMELY RARE c1890 CHINESE EXPORT SILVER THREE PIECE DRAGON & PEARL CRUET SET; CLASSIC CAULDRON FORM ON CAST BUN FEET; RAISED THREE CLAW DRAGONS; RARE CANTON MAKER "CC" This is a fine and extremely rare c1880 Chinese export silver three piece dragon and pearl cruet set. Signed for maker C.C. This maker is not found in Forbes or Kernan. He is only listed in Chan (2005), as having worked in Canton in the first half of the 19th century. Given the form and design, we believe the set a bit later perhaps c1880. A great opportunity for the beginning and even advanced collector of China trade silver to acquire a complete cruet set, from a Canton maker not often encountered. The set in unique raised circular or cauldron design. Adorned with brilliant raised three claw dragons. In pursuit of the sacred pearl. The serpents long undulating body comprised of hundreds of individually hand carved diamond shape scales. As "real" to the touch. Thick, well cast gently domed cover to mustard. Raised globe finial. The pepper with bun form screw on cover in fine state. Associated bamboo form spoon and both hand blown glass liners. Fine condition. Covers close flush to base. The set stands firm on table or display shelf. The dragon decoration crisp and vibrant. Stubborn areas of tearnish as shown, most to pepper and interior of salt. This read more
